Kabot backers launch write-in petition

Supporters of Republican Southampton supervisor candidate Linda Kabot have filed petitions to wage a write-in campaign in the September primary to get her the Conservative ballot line.

Supporters filed a petition for an "opportunity to ballot," which allows anyone to write in the name of a challenger to take on the Conservative designee.

Kabot had circulated petitions in hopes of getting the minor party's authorization for its ballot line. But Conservative leaders balked at issuing the Wilson Pakula certificate, which allows a nonparty member to run on their line.-- Rick Brand
