Republican presidential candidate John Kasich will hit the Long Island campaign trail on Monday, with scheduled appearances in Hempstead and Huntington.

The Ohio governor is the first of the three GOP presidential candidates to campaign in Nassau and Suffolk before the state’s April 19 primary.

Kasich will host two town halls — 11 a.m. at Hofstra University’s David S. Mack Student Center and 6 p.m. at The Paramount in Huntington.

Kasich trails real estate mogul Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in national polls and in the number of delegates needed to secure the GOP nomination. But he has resisted calls to drop out of the race, telling residents at a town hall forum in Queens last week that he was the strongest of the three candidates to defeat Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders in the November general election. He said his state experience as governor and federal experience as a longtime congressman, make him the most qualified GOP candidate.

“I choose to give people hope,” Kasich said Thursday at an appearance in Howard Beach, Queens.
