Democratic U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand has endorsed Democratic Nassau Legis. Laura Curran’s campaign for Nassau County executive, becoming the first statewide elected official to weigh in on the race.
Curran of Baldwin has the backing of the Nassau Democratic Party in her Sept. 12 primary against county Comptroller George Maragos.
“Laura has the leadership and vision Nassau needs to end the culture of corruption that has brought residents’ trust in government to an all-time low,” Gillibrand said. “Laura understands what so many in government have forgotten — that we’re here to serve the people who elect us.”
Maragos has been endorsed by several community, religious and business leaders, largely from the Hispanic, Indian and Pakistani communities.
Former State Sen. Jack Martins, the GOP nominee for county executive, is backed by Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford) and three dozen local mayors from across the county.
