Weiss, 53, a fourth-generation Long Beach native who lives in the Canals, is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines as part of a bipartisan coalition. He works as a health care equipment salesman and a local lifeguard in summer. Weiss is a board member of Surfers' Way, which channels autistic children into surfing, and a member of Surfrider Foundation, an environmental group. He holds an associate's degree in physical education from Nassau Community College.

ISSUES: A first-time candidate, Weiss said if elected he would develop a municipal energy program to help homeowners install solar panels. Weiss is against a proposal to build a liquid natural gas plant on an artificial island 13.5 miles south of the city's boardwalk. To create more parking spaces, Weiss would implement a resident permit system, designate employee parking, lease space and move bus stops to coincide with fire hydrants, among other things.
