Immigration is falling flat as a campaign issue in New York - even on Long Island.
Never mind that President Barack Obama recently gave a big speech on it and is suing Arizona to overturn its law requiring police to investigate the citizenship status of anyone they reasonably suspect of being an illegal immigrant during a lawful stop.
Among Long Island congressional candidates, only Republican John Gomez issued a release after the Arizona lawsuit. Even so, an aide said immigration probably won't be a big deal in his race against Rep. Steve Israel (D-Huntington).
Most candidates say the key issue is employment. "Every poll I've done for the past year and a half has said jobs is number one," agreed pollster Michael Dawidziak.
