Parties eye candidates for Assembly seat

Democrats are eyeing four contenders for a special election, still to be set, to fill the 1st Assembly District seat vacated by Dan Losquadro, the new GOP Brookhaven highway superintendent: lawyer Jennifer Maertz of Rocky Point, who lost a State Senate primary last year; county park police officer Tom Schiliro of Manorville, who ran a losing town board primary several years ago; Cutchogue winery owner Jim Waters; and Riverhead attorney John McManmon.

GOP contenders include Southold town board member Christopher Talbot, former Brookhaven Councilman Kevin McCarrick, and town planning aide William Faulk, who was chief of staff to Brookhaven Supervisor Edward P. Romaine when he was a Suffolk legislator.
