In Lloyd Constantine's new book on the short-lived Spitzer administration, the longtime Spitzer friend and author includes this snippet from the ex-governor's first budget battle in 2007:
"Eliot delivered a polished and solid budget address to the hostile legislators....For the first time... I watched people recently in awe of the man take him on publicly."
"Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg from Nassau County, dressed in a bright red sweatshirt, an obvious act of disrespect, pelted Eliot with questions and criticisms about the Executive Budget's treatment of his district.
"The skill Eliot had shown in handling Harvey Sweatshirt and the other aggressive interrogators from the Legislature highlighted the Jekyll-and-Hyde shifts that occurred in Eliot's demeanor throughout the Plague Year...."
