The state Senate Republicans’ campaign committee attacks Sen. Craig Johnson (D-Port Washington) in a mailing that stacks his photo atop those of investigated Senate Minority Leader Malcolm Smith (D-St. Albans) and disgraced ex-Gov. Eliot Spitzer. The print piece urges residents to call Johnson to say “we’ve had enough.”
Unfortunately, two digits of Johnson’s district office phone number are transposed in the mailing. And the number printed belongs to Denis Dillon, the former Nassau district attorney.
Said Johnson's spokesman Azzopardi: ""it is shameful that in their zeal to distract people from the fact that the last time the Albany. Republicans held the Senate they ran it as a criminal enterprise, they caused an inconvenience to a dedicated public servant like Denis Dillian. The Republicans should apologize to the residents of the 7th Senate District for putting this factually dubious dreck into their mailboxes and to Mr. Dillion for bringing it into his home."
But a GOP official called the wrong number “obviously an honest mistake” and said Johnson must be getting complaints anyway criticizing his "dismal record" regardless of what number was printed on the mailing.
