At parley, LI Dem tweaks unnamed Levy

Babylon Town Supervisor Steve Bellone received the Somos task force’s community service award for appointing Salvadoran immigrant Tony Martinez to the town board in July 2008. Martinez, of Wheatley Heights, won election in his own right in November 2008.

In accepting the honor, Bellone, a Democrat, referred to Suffolk Executive Steve Levy’s efforts to combat illegal immigration – without mentioning Levy by name. “Some in our county have demagogued on the issue of immigration…It is wrong. It is harmful to all our communities,” Bellone said.

Other area representatives spotted including Assemb. Philip Ramos (D-Brentwood) and Suffolk Legislators Ricardo Montano (D-Brentwood) and Vivian Viloria-Fisher (D-Setauket).
