Back to the tower: A combined anti-Trump protest in NYC

A coalition of groups critical of Donald Trump — including unions and a left-leaning political party — planned Tuesday afternoon to deliver 400,000 petitions to Trump Tower in Manhattan calling on the presumptive Republican presidential nominee to release his tax returns.

Among the event sponsors were the unions AFL-CIO and the United Federation of Teachers, the progressive Working Families Party and organizations Democracy for America and Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund, according to a Facebook invitation.

They were to hold a rally at 5:30 p.m. on Fifth Avenue in front of Trump’s skyscraper to additionally “oppose his massive tax giveaway to the rich and big corporations,” the invitation read.

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s income tax returns have been made public going back for decades.

Critics have suggested that Trump is attempting to hide something by withholding his tax returns. The documents could show his donations to charities, effective tax rates and sources of income.

The Republican has said, “You don’t learn anything from a tax return.”
