The way some see it, Sen. Craig Johnson's pushing Belmont Park as location for a Shinnecock gambling operation means conflict with other lawmakers' efforts on behalf of an Aqueduct racino. Crain's Insider reports in part:
"State Sen. Craig Johnson appears to be on a different page from fellow legislators .....Bidders for the Aqueduct project have been operating under the assumption that they won't have competition from Belmont. A tribal casino 10 miles away would likely render Aqueduct economically unfeasible.... Johnson spokesman Rich Azzopardi dismisses the notion that a Belmont casino would kill Aqueduct....."
