ALBANY — Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan, the state’s top elected Republican, will hold his June 26 political fundraiser at Trump National Golf Club Westchester — an event that appeared teed up for Democrats.
Donors will pay $1,500 per plate for dinner and $3,000 — or $10,000 for a foursome — for a round of golf at the event, hosted by Friends of John Flanagan.
“While the rest of New York fights the dangerous and radical policies of Donald Trump, John Flanagan hosts high-donor fundraisers at Trump’s golf course,” said Mike Murphy, spokesman for the Senate’s Democratic minority, which has spent much of the last year trying to link Senate Republicans to Trump.
“What’s next, a trip to Russia?” Murphy asked.
“Once again, the Senate Democrats are eager to manufacture an issue where none exists,” said Flanagan spokesman Scott Reif. “This is golf. The course was available. And, not for nothing, it takes money to run for public office these days, especially when your opponents are always attacking, distorting and politicizing everything you do.”
Flanagan in February explained that he doesn’t always agree with Trump, but “I don’t want to be hurling grenades and throwing bombs all the time. . . . I’d rather be in a position of having entree and access to the administration.”
