ALBANY -- Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano, a Republican, has endorsed Democratic Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo for re-election.

The endorsement has long been expected. Cuomo and Mangano have worked together on several initiatives including funding for recovery from superstorm Sandy.

“When Sandy hit, he stood shoulder to shoulder with us, day and night, and then went to Washington and got us the money to rebuild,” Mangano said Tuesday. “I’m a Republican, and I’m voting for Governor Cuomo, because his leadership is working for Long Island.”

There was no immediate comment from Republican candidate for governor Rob Astorino, the Westchester County executive.
