The political fundraising group Emily’s List, which backs female candidates who support abortion rights, has endorsed Legis. Laura Curran (D-Baldwin) in her campaign for Nassau County executive.
Geri Prado, senior director of state and local campaigns for Emily’s List, which has more than three million members nationwide, called Curran “an unapologetic advocate” for abortion rights and women’s health issues.
“She is an outspoken voice for equal pay, and Laura will ensure more women are given the opportunity to lead on Long Island,” Prado said. “Emily’s List is proud to stand with Laura Curran and endorse her candidacy as she strives to shatter Nassau’s highest glass ceiling and become its first-ever female county executive.”
Curran, a second-term Nassau legislator, will take on Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos in the Sept. 12 Democratic primary.
“I will fight every day to advance workplace opportunities for women in Nassau and to make sure they’re getting equal pay for equal work,” Curran said. “The good old boys club has left Nassau taxpayers behind, and I will bring the new leadership and vision our County desperately needs.”
