A politically connected law firm is being hired as the $175,000-a-year labor relations advisor to Nassau County.
The county has sent the contract with Bee Ready Fishbein Hatter & Donovan of Mineola to the county legislature for approval at committee meetings Monday.
The Bee in the firm is Peter Bee, who spent much of the last half of November helping Nassau Republicans oversee the count of paper ballots that ended with the election of Republican Edward Mangano as county executive by 386 votes.
Nassau County Attorney John Ciampoli released the following statement Friday morning:
"Peter Bee, and the Bee, Ready law firm are acknowledged as being among the premier practitioners in the area of labor law. The firm has particular experience in dealing with matters for the County of Nassau.
"In accordance with procedure, several firms were interviewed by the County Attorney and members of the Senior Staff. Their decision was to issue a contract to Bee, Ready Fishbein, Hatter and Donovan. This firm replaces an outside vendor contracted for by the prior administration at a lower cost."
The same firm has been the county’s labor consultant between 1980 and 2002 under prior Republican administrations. The contract is for one year, with a county option to renew for two, one-year terms.
[Is it possible that attorneys Peter A. Bee and Richard P. Ready formed their own firm just so they could be called Bee Ready?]
