Republicans are pouring in money to help Assemb. Philip Boyle (R-Bay Shore) win an open Senate seat in Suffolk County.
The Senate Republican Campaign Committee has forked over $220,000 to help Boyle defeat Democrat Ricardo Montano in the battle to replace retiring Sen. Owen Johnson (R-West Babylon).
The committee transferred $130,000 directly to Boyle’s campaign coffers and spent another $90,000 on his behalf, according to records filed Friday with the state Board of Elections.
The cash-strapped Democratic Senate Campaign Committee has spent $15,000 on Montano’s behalf. However, Montano reported having raised about $150,000 since launching his candidacy and having $110,000 on hand for the final month of the campaign.
The Boyle-Montano battle is one of eight that analysts say will determine control of the Senate. Republicans currently hold a 33-29 advantage in the chamber.
