GOP taps lawyer to run for Rob Walker's Assembly seat

Republicans have named attorney Michael Montesano of Glen Head to run for the state Assembly seat vacated by Republican Rob Walker, who stepped down to become chief deputy Nassau County executive under Edward Mangano.

The special election will be held Feb. 9th. The 15th AD is centered in Hicksville and encompasses the northern portion of Oyster Bay Town and parts of North Hempstead and Hempstead towns.

Montesano, 55, who has a law practice in Glen Cove, ran a strong race last fall against Nassau County Legis. Diane Yatauro in heavily Democratic Glen Cove, losing by about 1,100 votes out of 11,000 votes cast.

Democrats have tapped Matthew Meng, 57, of East Norwich, an environmental activist who owns an auto repair shop, to run for the seat.
