Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour has previously poured water on Steve Levy's claim that his Republican Governor's Association had promised to pour millions into his gubernatorial bid.
Now comes a Barbour statement issued by Levy's new rival, Myers Mermel:
“I would like to welcome my friend Myers Mermel to the race for Governor of New York. He is a successful businessman who holds core conservative values and principles,” Barbour said. “His entry is another encouraging sign for Republicans in the New York governor’s race.”
“We look forward to Republicans in New York having a spirited debate about the future of the state, and I am confident the eventual GOP nominee will be competitive in the fall,” Barbour concluded.
Remember, the RGA has vowed to pour $65 million into governor's races around the country where the Republican is "competitive." Sounds like Barbour thinks New York will be on that list.
