Gov jabs Cuomo by name; Does he gain?

Going negative early, a politically struggling Gov. David Paterson blasted his non-declared rival AG Andrew Cuomo outright today, accusing him of hiding from issues by not announcing his candidacy against him.

“Is this the openness and transparency? Is this the good government? …Is this the progressive kind of leadership we've been waiting for?" Paterson asked on the John Gambling show on WOR. "Someone who is afraid of any kind of controversy that they're going to wait until the last minute, jump in, win the primary, win the general election and the public will only find out what they think a year from now."

After his announcement on a national banking case, Cuomo was asked to react. He said essentially that he's been concentrating on his day job as taxpayers expect.

The latest public polls show Paterson's numbers sliding again.
