Gugerty new leader of Oyster Bay Dems

The new Democratic leader of the Town of Oyster Bay is David Gugerty of Bayville — a double political minority.

He’s Democratic leader of a town with a solid Republican majority, and his day job is counsel to the Democratic minority in the Nassau County Legislature.

Gugerty, a close ally of former CE Thomas Suozzi, quietly assumed the town post this spring, taking over from Alex Sklavos.

“It is humbling to be stepping into the position once held by our great State and County Chairman Jay Jacobs,” Gugerty said in an e-mail message that recently spread beyond its original recipients.
