Hempstead's leader leaves out the word Lighthouse

The hottest political word in the Town of Hempstead for the past year was not even uttered Tuesday by Town Supervisor Kate Murray as she spoke after being sworn in for another term.


Murray promised “reasonable development” at the Nassau County Hub in Uniondale, but never mentioned the Lighthouse project by name.


That project lost one of its biggest boosters when Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi, a Democrat who lost his re-election bid. Suozzi had often pressed Murray and the town board to speed up its approval process.


The Republican supervisor was sworn in during a ceremony at Town Hall by new Republican County Executive Edward Mangano, who beat Suozzi.
