Holiday comes and goes without Suffolk red-light cams

Memorial Day is here, but Suffolk’s Public Works Department still has not installed its first red-light camera, which was supposed to be up and running this weekend.

Officials say the first cameras are still several weeks away but they could not say exactly when. However, Suffolk officials now say the first red light camera will be installed at the intersection of the Long Island Expressway south service road at Exit 59 and Ocean Avenue.

Commissioner Gil Anderson that the county will not impose its $50 fines for the first 30 days on the first camera but instead written notices will be mailed out as a warning as part of an education program.
