Evoking Reagan, TV ad targets Trump, others on immigration

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. - Ahead of the Republican debate at the Reagan Library, a migrant-advocate group was running ads on CNN that evoked Ronald Reagan while taking a shot at GOP frontrunner Donald Trump and other candidates.

The National Immigration Forum Action Fund used Reagan's famous speech in which he talked about a "shining city on a hill." The ad includes the line in which Reagan says that if that city needs a wall, there will be doors in the wall to welcome those who want to join those in the city.

The ad was a direct response to Trump's proposal to build a "great, great wall" at the border with Mexico to prevent illegal immigrants, including rapists and murderers, from entering the U.S.

The ad reportedly also will call out Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who, like Trump, said they would support ending birthright citizenship.
