L.I. state Senate races intensify at the top of the stretch

A few news pieces on the races for the state Senate:

Kemp Hannon versus Ryan Cronin looks more competitive than several others, as Yancey Roy reports here.

The GOP sounds confident but is spending some money on LI, just in case.

As top-of-the-ticket candidades go, Mitt Romney doesn't look like another Carl Paladino, who was seen as the master of down-ballot disaster.

The Democratic candidate against Sen. John Flanagan suspended his campaign while taking on county work.

Sen. Kenneth LaValle's position on fracking is noted here. It reads in part:

LaValle (R-Port Jefferson) opposes regulations that would allow it "until health studies convincingly prove there is not a threat," said spokesman Drew Biondo.

LaValle co-sponsored legislation that would have placed a moratorium on the practice, and "will not support fracking until there is clear  convincing proof that it doesn't pose a threat."
