Nassau Legis. Laura Curran (D-Baldwin) ran into Brian Nevin, spokesman for Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano, at a news conference in Freeport Wednesday morning. It was their first face-to-face encounter since Nevin said in news story about property tax refunds, “Laura Curran couldn’t understand the assessment system if it smacked her in the face.”

The comment in the Newsday story Tuesday raised eyebrows in the political community.

According to Curran, she said hello and Nevin said hello.

“Everything was normal,” Curran said. “Nobody got smacked in the face.”

When contacted, Nevin said, “ I have the utmost respect for Legislator Curran and sometimes public policy debates fail to truly reflect the good working relationship we have in government.”
