One woman in the audience was beaming Monday as Republican Legis. Peter Schmitt of Massapequa was breezing — Democrats grumbled that he was steamrolling — through his first session as the presiding officer of the Nassau County Legislature.


It was his wife, Lois.


“How’s he doing his first day?” she was asked.

She beamed even more, touched her index to her thumb to form a circle and winked.
