There are a couple of sure-fire ways to get the attention of politicians.
One is to threaten them with a serious opponent, either in a party primary or the general election.
The second is give them a campaign contribution, or withhold a campaign contribution.
The construction industry and construction trade unions on Long Island have taken the second approach, telling pols that unless more money comes through for heavy construction there will be no campaign contributions.
