Last one out turn, turn off the lights — the dome lights too.
Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano said Friday he has ordered the dome lights atop the Theodore Roosevelt government building shut off at midnight to save energy, and money.
“There’s no reason to light up the night sky and cost the taxpayers extra dollars,” he said. “I was up there and those bulbs are so hot they could melt steel.”
The lights, which had burned from dusk to sunup, he said, would now be shut off by a timer at midnight. He said he was unsure of what they savings would be.
“They’re beautiful. They’re pretty. But we don’t need them all night, "he said.
