It was an inauspicious beginning for Edward Eisenstein of East Meadow, who has been nominated as Nassau’s commissioner of information technology.

He appeared at his confirmation hearing before the Nassau County Legislature on Tuesday and began to speak into a dead microphone. Someone told him to hit the red button on the podium.

“I should know that, being in technology,” Eisenstein said.

There was also a bit of techno misunderstanding when Legis. David Denenberg (D-Merrick) asked him why he listed Vienna, Austria as his “new” hometown.

He said he was born in Vienna. The “new” referred to a new entry in his online bio.

Eisenstein remembered to hit the off button when he was finished.
