Last night's annual Inner Circle show and dinner at the Hilton featured Mayor Michael Bloomberg looking like a diminutive Ozzie Osbourne, playing a long-haired hippie with ringers from the Broadway revival of "Hair". The theme of the reporters' spoof was "Tri-lite," a vampire story in which he turns out to be a descendant of former District Attorney Robert Morgenthau.
Among statewide VIP's in attendance were U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Republican candidate for governor Rick Lazio, along with the city government crew. One inside-Albany line from the press script: Lt. Gov Richard Ravitch going up to Gov. David A. Paterson and saying, "Let me introduce myself. I'm Richard Ravitch, your lieutenant governor."
The 'Paterson' response: "I wish I was lieutenant governor."
Corruption joke: City Council members changing their official titles to "Persons of Interest," with the point of pride that their crime rate remained lower per capita than that of the state Senate.
The $500-per-ticket charity event also brought from Long Island the state Democratic chairman Jay Jacobs and party counsel Tom Garry. One Steve Levy line, in the welcoming remarks by president John Slattery, played on the Suffolk executive's party switch.
