Mike and the mayor?

Sports radio host Mike Francesa waded into political waters this month, contributing $2,000 to Flower Hill Mayor Elaine Phillips, a Republican running for the State Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Jack Martins (R-Old Westbury), according to State Board of Election filings.

Francesa, who lives in the North Hempstead village near Phillips’ home, attended a June fundraiser for the Senate candidate, according to a campaign source.

“She is my neighbor and a very nice woman,” Francesa said. “She was a very attentive and efficient mayor.”

A registered independent, Francesa has never previously contributed to a local political candidate, although he gave $1,000 to the Republican National Committee in 2003, records show.

Phillips will take on Democrat Adam Haber, an East Hills businessman, in November. Martins is vacating the 7th District seat to run for the House seat of retiring Rep. Steve Israel (D-Huntington).
