Here's a dynamic to watch as the new order takes shape in Nassau: The relationship between Executive-elect Edward Mangano and county GOP Chairman Joe Mondello, now that Mangano becomes the bigger player of the two.

Meanwhile, Mangano and his newly-empowered Republican legislative colleagues will soon count revenues in more ways than one. Chairman Mondello plans a $5,000-per-head fundraiser at the Crest Hollow Country Club Jan. 21 for Mangano and for the incoming Republican legislative majority and Presiding Officer-to-be Peter Schmitt (R-Massapequa).

One invited lobbyist said, “It seems $5,000 is the new $500” in fundraising. Price aside, this marks a Mondello victory lap.

Even local Democrats credit Mondello for helping recoup elected power in the county.
