Mark Green -- who by way of footnote probably lost the 2001 mayor's race as an indirect consequence of the 9/11 attacks -- says here of the mosque furor that there is no 'but' in freedom of religion, and believes media magnate Rupert Murdoch or ex-President George W. Bush could or would endorse its construction which he notes would actually be out of sight of Ground Zero. For now this puts him on pretty much the same page as his former rival for AG Andrew Cuomo. It also puts him on the same terrain as his former rival for mayor, Michael Bloomberg. Green's piece provokes a reader's question: If and when the Freedom Tower gets built, will it be leasing space to business interests from the Emirates, Dubai, or Saudi Arabia? Judging by Green's often-sharp sense of political timing, you get the impression this whole matter may be running out of steam as a wedge issue.
