There was a news conference Monday in Mineola about the county’s property tax assessment problems. The problems took a back seat to the rhetoric.
Here is reaction from aides to Republican CE Edward Mangano to Legis. Diane Yatuaro (D-Glen Cove.)
“This is nothing more than a baseless partisan attack by a legislator who has failed to address over $1 billion in wasted tax dollars associated with our broken assessment system while in office. Rather than political grandstanding, Legislator Yatauro should focus on solutions. It’s not surprising she would not want to be a part of the solution. Often represented by the Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein law firm, Legislator Yatauro grieved her property taxes each year for the past 14 years, reducing her home assessment by nearly $44,000.”
Back-at-you from Yatauro: “It is true I do file assessment grievances challenging the amount of my property assessment. I conduct seminars in my district each year like most of my colleagues from both parties to educate residents how to grieve. Unlike the County Executive, my assessment data is accurate and includes ALL bathrooms and air conditioning.”
