Nassau GOP's number-two approved as $198G OTB president

Joseph Cairo, second-in-command of Nassau's Republican party organization, is now officially the $198,000-a-year president of the county's off-track betting corporation, some four months after a new Repubilcan OTB board attempted to put him in the job.

The State Racing and Wagering Board completed its background check of Cairo and approved his appointment as president on July 20, an OTB spokesman said.

Cairo was disbarred in 1994 after admitting to diverting client funds but was readmitted to the bar in 2007.
