While the top players in the Albany reductions are in kumbaya mode, nothing could be further from the situation in Nassau.

Verbal sparring grew unusually tart Friday between George Marlin, member of the Nassau Interim Finance Authority, and county attorney John Ciampoli (in photo), from the Mangano administration, which has sued NIFA.

Marlin said NIFA used competitive proposals to hire “the best legal team” to “protect Nassau’s taxpayers from the county’s frivolous and unsuccessful lawsuit” — while the county hired a “politically-connected” firm without relevant experience.

Ciampoli called Marlin “is a hypocritical narcissist” and “a petty man” who “knows nothing about” Long Island and “could never be elected to anything.” Ciampoli cited NIFA’s hiring of former chief state Judge Judith Kaye “at nearly one thousand dollars per hour.”
