No chest-thumping reported at Nassau GOP event

More than 125 people turned out for Nassau Republican Chairman Joseph Mondello’s $5,000-a-plate fundraiser Thursday night at the Crest Hollow Country Club. Surprisingly, they apparently left their egos at home.

New County Executive Ed Mangano, who ran most of his campaign on a shoestring, graciously gave credit to Mondello, who threw nearly $250,000 into the race during its last month when polls showed incumbent Democrat Thomas Suozzi could be beaten.

Mangano told the crowd,  “Joe Mondello was a tremendous help. In the final stetch, when when we needed a push, Mondello gave us the help to do the final push.” observers say.

They say Mondello was humble in his response:  “Republicans didn’t win the race; the  Democrats lost it. The people gave us the opportunity to govern effectively and we have to do that.”
