Republican Maureen O’Connell, easily re-elected as Nassau County clerk, quietly began her second term on New Year’s Day.

“I have already taken the oath of office, and not planning a formal ceremony,” she said in an e-mail Monday night. “I am leaving it to the newly elected officials to have their events. Also, wanted to keep it low key in light of the economy.”

[UPDATE: Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice also took the low-key approach. "She signed her oath card last week and that was it," and aide said Tuesday.]
