Republicans brought Flower Hill Mayor Elaine Phillips to meet GOP senators Tuesday at the State Capitol, a sign, sources said, of her potential candidacy to run for a seat currently held by Sen. Jack Martins, who is running for Congress.

Phillips met briefly with the 31-member Senate Republican conference behind closed doors. Sources called it an informal “introduction.” She is one of several potential candidates in 7th Senate District, which covers western Nassau County, sources said.

Martins (R-Old Westbury) is in his sixth year as the district’s senator but is running to replace Rep. Steve Israel (D-Huntington), who is stepping down, effective at the end of the year.

Democrat Adam Haber, who lost to Martins in 2014, has said he’ll run again for the Senate seat.
