"Republican" is back on Nassau political scene

Republican Michael Montesano is actually using the word “Republican” on his campaign literature, listing his “Republican-Independence-Conservative” endorsement.

Most Nassau Republicans kept the word “Republican” off their campaign literature last year, preferring to tell voters to “Vote Row B.”

Montesano, a Glen Head resident with a law practice in Glen Cove, is running in a special election Feb. 9th to fill the state Assembly seat vacated by Rob Walker, who stepped down to become chief deputy to Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano.

Democrats have tapped Matthew Meng of East Norwich, an environmental activist who owns an auto repair shop.
