Rep. Steve Israel’s (D-Huntington) Jan. 5 announcement that he won’t run for re-election this year seems to have unleashed what he calls his “Long Island snark.”
As Israel tells it, while he and other lawmakers waited to escort President Barack Obama to the podium to deliver his last State of the Union address a week later, Obama invited Israel to the White House to discuss his future.
But Israel said he told him he already had a plan. “Plumbing supply. I know nothing about it, but it seems to suit me well,” Israel said.
Obama laughed and said, “Will you do well with plumbing supply?”
Israel said he replied, “I will. And I need a partner.”
