Republican state Sen. Kenneth LaValle's office replies to an earlier slap from would-be Democratic challenger Regina Calcaterra by saying that the factual basis of her critique is outdated -- and that the Senate Democrats, now in charge, are the ones responsible for a splurge of public funds.
Joann Scalia, spokesperson for the senator, said "The office expense data that was posted was old and outdated. A current expense report would show that Senate Democrats are spending far mroe than the Republicans ever did when we were in the majority.
"In addition, during his time as chairman of the Senate higher-education committee, Sen. Lavalle was able to secure over $240 million for the State University at Stony Brook, creating hundreds of jobs for our region."
Democrats captured a majority in the 62-member house in the 2008 elections for the first time in four decades.
