Senator Mort? Believe it only if you see it

The loose talk about NY Daily News publisher Mort Zuckerman, left, perhaps running for Senate inspires one prominent former employee to have some "make-my-day" kind of fun, here.

Zuckerman  “is not interested in running for public office,” said his spokesman Ken Frydman. No reason not to take him at his word, since nobody on the record has declared otherwise.

This story, based on anonymous sources, is in the Times.

Like Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Zuckerman was a wealthy and successful businessman first, media owner second, and would be a NY elected official third if this feathery scenario ever played out.

At Zuckerman's News, Liz Benjamin links in a roundup to the Times piece without elaboration. Rupert Murdoch's Post doesn't seem to bother with one its reflexive putdowns of the tabloid competitor. Here's our own pickup of the Times report.

All very tentative and deniable -- and while crazier things have happened, so have more ordinary things.
