Today's front-page Post headline manages to mislead twice in the course of six words.
'Party of One,' blares the head on the Post's Paterson-announcement story. "'I'm running,' sad gov says to empty room," it adds.
Sure it was a small gathering with not many notables, that's true. But the room was full enough, given its capacity of about 300 to 400, and a very local Saturday-morning Long Island guest list.
To those of us at the event, the gov didn't seem too 'sad.' The headline makes it sound as if he was reacting to the supposedly 'empty room.' Actually, the term 'sad' seems to have been an editorial assessment of his effort to get elected. Again, that analysis may be plausible enough, but you sure don't get an accurate impression cruising by the newsstand.
