Lou D’Amaro declines to face Boyle for Senate seat

Term-limited Suffolk Legis. Lou D’Amaro (D-North Babylon) has decided against challenging Sen. Phil Boyle (R-Bay Shore) despite entreaties from Senate Democrats looking to take the majority in November.

“It’s just not the right time for me,” said D’Amaro, who made the decision late last month and informed state Sen. Michael Gianaris (D-Astoria), head of the Senate Democrats’ campaign committee, before New Year’s.

While Conservatives are warring with Suffolk Republican chairman John Jay LaValle and have threatened to withhold their support from local Republican candidates, Boyle is likely to be exempt. The wife of embattled Suffolk Conservative chairman Edward Walsh works as an aide to the senator.
