News, views and commentary on Long Island, state and national politics.

The Two Toms are expected to be the rainmakers (the people who bring in the clients and the money) at a new law office on Long Island.

The Toms are Thomas Suozzi, the former Democratic Nassau County executive, and Thomas Garry, formerly with the Democratic powerhouse law firm Jaspan Schlesinger of Garden City, and current counsel to Nassau’s Democratic elections commissioner, William Biamonte.

Both are joining the new Long Island office of Harris Beach, a NYC-based firm that will be opening offices in Uniondale. (Gotta love the firm’s slogan: “Lawyers you’ll swear by. Not at.”)

Suozzi will be “of counsel to the firm.” He is also a consultant for Cablevision, which owns Newsday, and is a “senior adviser” to Lazard Ltd., the investment banking firm formerly known as Lazard Freres & Co.

Harris Beach already had 10 other offices scattered around the state, but this will be its first on Long Island. It bills itself as full service firm with “particular strengths in regulatory matters across many industries and disciplines.”
