Upbeat Tea Party anger at Garden City protest

Passing motorists honked and waved cheerfully to about 50 Tea Party protesters Saturday afternoon in Garden City.

Organizers said the protest was aimed at Democratic U.S. Reps. Carolyn McCarthy and Gary Ackerman, but there were lots of shouts of “Chuck Schumer” — with “chuck” being used as a verb against Democratic U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer.

It was the first of two protests planned at the site — on Old County Road at Clinton Street. The next is Saturday, also at noon.

Among those attending were a handful of Conservative Party activists, and a Republican lawyer standing off to the side, who said he was only there because he drove his wife. She confirmed his story.
