A Westchester state Supreme Court judge has been named to handle the divorce between Rep. Steve Israel (D-Huntington) and Acting State Supreme Court Justice Marlene Budd. But the case will be heard in Suffolk County.

Linda Christopher, the supervising judge of Westchester’s matrimonial courts, is scheduled to preside for the first time in the case Tuesday at the Cohalan Court complex in Central Islip.

Israel announced the couple’s split in May 2011, on the eve of their eighth anniversary, but the case only went to court this past December. It was the second marriage for each. Before they married, Israel and Budd once served on the Huntington town board together. The couple was married in 2003 aboard a boat by the Huntington lighthouse. Town Supervisor Frank Petrone officiated at the ceremony.
