STEVEN L. LABRIOLA

REPUBLICAN

BACKGROUND: Labriola, 47, of Massapequa Park, was elected town clerk in 2003. Previously he was a member of the state Assembly for seven years. He is also on the Independence and Conservative lines.

ISSUES: He said he revamped computer operations so his office can issue permits within the department rather than go through the town’s mainframe system or use typewriters.

“I modernized the cash-handling accounting practices” by designating a dedicated cashier rather than having many employees handle money,” he said. “We take over-the-counter credit card transactions now.”

He instituted twice monthly evening hours. Labriola introduced a program that provides free “green” public parking and beach permits to residents who drive a hybrid or alternative fuel vehicle. “I also initiated a Do Not Knock Registry for residents who do not want to be bothered by solicitors.”
