A small craft advisory has been issued through Thursday night for Long Island's South Shore ocean waters, the National Weather Service said in its marine forecast.
The advisory includes Moriches Inlet to Montauk Point; Fire Island Inlet to Moriches Inlet; and Sandy Hook, New Jersey, to Fire Island Inlet, plus waters 20 nautical miles out from each area, the service's Upton office said.
East winds from 10 to 15 knots are likely with gusts to 25 knots. Wave heights up to 5 feet are likely, and there's a slight chance of rain from the afternoon to evening, the service said.
Conditions are expected to diminish by Friday.
Water temperatures range from 53.4 degrees at Montauk to 57.2 degrees to Kings Point.
The service's inland forecast for Nassau and Suffolk counties calls for temperatures in the low 60s with light winds from the east at 11 mph.
